Artist Statement
A summer job on a building site sparked new interests in industrial materials and processes. Coming in contact with new materials every day unearthed a modern appreciation for their qualities and potential. Cross sections of functional objects we see every day can hide something very intriguing, for example plastic window, shower door frames, curtain rollers. By disassembling and dissecting various fittings, trims and frames I reveal their functional side, moving from the intentional aesthetic finish to expose the functional, unsuspected side of each individual item. Fittings for screws and support structures are incorporated throughout the work. I am bringing the objects already known back into the domestic setting by redesigning the function and the aesthetics while maintaining a hint of their origins. |
